A room doesn't need to have color in order to have an impact. With the right balance of wood, whites, blacks and texture you can create a cozy and inviting home. This lovely space from @housesevendesign instagram has me feeling so inspired. It's simple elegant and completely homey.
Let me help you create a custom design from your inspiration photo. That's where I begin with all my clients. I create a look that's their personal style and budget. Send me a few photos of your room and I will create a quote to meet your specific design needs. Let's start your Decorator in a Box today!
Sometimes all a room needs is a little refresh. That was the case with this home in California's beautiful Silicon Valley. Years ago the client decorated in all the red tones and color palette that was so popular at the time. She invested in nice upholstery pieces and wanted to be able to still use them. She also hoped to give the room an update and get the best layout for the tricky space. Tricky mainly because of the fireplace location. I created a design that kept some of the warmer red tones and mixed in blues with camel leathers. This will take the style into 2018 and beyond. By mounting the TV on the wall with an adjustable bracket the rooms furniture layout became for flexible. This should be just the refresh needed for this home without having to purchase too many new things.
Tell me about your project. Just send me an email and a few photos. I can then create custom pricing options to meet your budget. After that I will provide you with a design in two weeks or less. Everything is done online, on your schedule, pace and budget. Let's start decorating your custom Decorator in a Box today!

#1 Add Statement Wallpaper
Take a look around your house. Where could you add a statement wallaper. Powder Baths and Headboard Walls are a great place to do this. It will dial your home up to a custom design level. One of my favorite wallpaper companies is @abnormalsanonymous. Follow them on instagram to get statement wallpaper inspiration.

#2 Drape a Suzani Throw
Bring in that layered wordly and eclectic vibe. Do this simply by draping a suzani blanket on the back of your headboard or sofa. It's all about textile mixing to get that designer look.

#3 Put it On Ice
Mixing in a special kitchen piece like a chinoiserie ice bucket can take your Labor Day bash to the next level. I would even put a plant inside when I'm not using and place in the corner or on a shelf.

#4 Mix & Match
Mix and match unexpected textiles for that collected and designer look. This photo is the perfect example of adding an animal print to a chinoiserie print fabric chair. The look is pulled together with the bold patterns on the lamp and accessorized boxes on the table.

Mudroom and Laundry Room tile doesn't need to be boring. Consider a linear tile such as a 12x24 size. A gray slate is a classic and durable option for areas like foyers, mudrooms and laundry rooms that get high and dirty traffic. The nice thing about a linear shaped tile is you can have fun with the layout. Here are three ideas to give your affordable slate floor and high end look.
Option #1 - Herringbone Layout
It' s elegant timeless and unexpected.

Option #2 - Brick Layout
This is a great option for a traditional home. It's also an easy and affordable install.

Option #3 - Mixed Size Brick Layout
This is going to take that affordable slate and give it that high end look.

I just completed this screen porch design and it's on the way to Nashville. The client loves that Hampton's style. I created a classic preppy design with blue and white. Then I tried to also give it that Southern twist. I'm hoping they will be lounging and relaxing in this space just in time for the lovely Fall season.
What project are you working on? Send me a quick email and tell me about it. I will get you a custom quote to meet your specific needs. Decorator in a Box has a consult option that is even more budget friendly. Whatever your design needs are let's work together to find the right design solution for your budget and comfort level.
Good morning! I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing Summer weekend. I took my girls to the Renaissance Festival at 5pm after the rush. We almost had the whole festival to ourselves making it so much sweeter. I forgot how charming non mechanical manually operated wooden rides can be. The highlight for us was the fairy forest where we followed a trail of pixie dust. This had me thinking about giving you all a few old fashioned tips for your kiddos bedrooms. Like the wooden rides of the Renaissance it's fun to go back to the non tech way of reading with a paper page book.
In about 90% of my child and teen bedroom designs I use the IKEA picture ledge to display books. I love doing this because it's not only functional as storage, but it's also artwork. So many of these book covers have amazing artwork. It's a great way to bring color into a space and it's interchangeable. Plus let's face it in a world where were trying to limit our children's screen time this reminds them to get lost in a good old fashion paper book.
Tell me about your project! I would love to help you with one wall or an entire room. Email me a few photos and what your thoughts are. I will send you a custom quote that meets your specific style needs and budget. Let's start your Decorator in a Box today!

Good Morning! I hope your all having a wonderfully lazy morning sipping coffee in your PJ's. I'm getting very excited about my latest screen porch design in Nashville. I have been finalizing selections this morning. It has the good kind of blues. I hope to share more with you once it's final. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
In a world full of gray and neutral farmhouse style homes. I'm starting to miss seeing my old friend color. Especially when it comes to artwork.
I have always been a modern and abstract art lover. I often times start my room designs by selecting the art first. Hannah Schochets color and major texture paintings inspired me to build a room around one of her pieces. See how it came together in the vision board below. The bold statement art is a great anchor in the room. You can build your own room around Hannah's art too. Open studio at the Northrup King Building is every Saturday noon-4. Head on over and meet Hannah herself and hear her process.
She is located in the Northrup King Building 1st floor studio 166. She is also just steps away from one of my favorite Minneapolis furniture outlets Blu Dot. Yes we are #blessed to have this outlet. Then just another few steps from Hannah and Blu Dot is the Minneapolis beloved brewery Bauhaus Brew Lab. They have not only great brews, but the quintessential Summer patio.
If you don't have any Saturday plans let me put this idea in your mind. Drive down to visit Hannah in the famous Northrup King Building...it's four floors of amazing art! Then once you purchase your favorite art go build a room around it at Blu Dot Outlet. You will be creatively exhausted after all that. Which is the perfect time to go rest on a patio sipping one of Minneapolis finest brews at Bauhaus. There I just planned an awesome Saturday for you. If not this Saturday try for the next or the next.
Oh and if you need help with a design you can contact me to pull it all together for you. I ship designs around Minneapolis to anywhere on the globe. Let's start your Decorator in a Box today!
