Many families are adjusting to make room for school to be at home. New York City knows about this adjustment very well. That was the case with this family I have worked with over the years. I have designed two apartments for them. I have also revisited this shared child's bedroom a few times before. As the kids grow and needs change so must the design function. As you know New Yorkers need to make the most of their small spaces and have smart storage solutions. With the two kids now home doing e-learning they needed a bedroom that would meet those new needs. By eliminating the wide bookcase I was able to incorporarte a workspace for each child. I added two new dressers and bookcase storage with this solution. I was also able to create a reading window seat with additional storage for toys. Now this space has multiple functions. It really makes the most of this unique situation many are faced with today. It's amazing what the right design can do to make life a little easier when new challenges arise.
