Little did I know when we got out family office up and running a few weeks ago it would be just in time. Just in time for quarantine and homeschooling during this interesting time we are all living in. Yes my new full time office buddy is my eight year old daughter. Thanks to her awesome teachers this has been pretty fun and nice to have her home. She is also a ton of help with her three old Sister. We have been slowly remodeling our 1980's home. This home adorned wall to wall carpet and honey oak. Let me tell you nothing felt better than ripping that all out. My husband and I have been doing the work ourselves. When I say we I mean he does all the work while I do the designing portion. I'm also good at running to Home Depot for things he needs. This office was once the formal living room at the front of our house. It is the first room you see when you enter our home. It use to make me crazy because it was used as our playroom. Therefore, the first thing you would see was a mess of toys upon entering our home. When we moved in four years ago we never intended for this to be a formal living room. We just aren't formal people. We knew a sofa and chairs would not get any use in this space. Instead we knew our family of four would use an office/den everyday almost all day. We created this look with a lot of IKEA. We finished it off with a little Overstock.com, World Market and Target. We are still working on filling the frames with our favorite family photos and memories. I would also like to add pulls to dress up the drawers a bit. The bay window also needs a big cozy cuddle chair and ottoman soon. These things will come, but for now we are already really enjoying this space. I know I will miss my little office pal when it's time to go back to school again. However it will be our homework hangout. Stay tuned for more details to be added as this room progresses. I hope this gives you some inspiration for creating a more functional space in your home. If you have a room that feels too formal or has been taken over by toys consider creating a space that will get more use from the whole family. Would you like some help?
